Dreamguard 'demons' live in a world near ours to keep an eye on our dreams. Although they are called 'demons', Dreamguards aren't actually demons at all. They are created, not born - souls living with mass-produced, specially designed bodies. A Dreamguard is 'born' when, after a short while, the body in which a new soul is kept grows markings that are unique to the Dreamguard.

Dreamguards do not allow humans to see them, and humans cannot come into contact with them because their skin and their clothes are tainted with traces of raw dreams, which can intoxicate a human. All Dreamguards have white skin, but they are free to change their hairstyle, hair colour and clothes anytime. They cannot change the markings on their skin, or the colour of their eyes.

However, Dreamguards, once setting the look they like, remain the same way for eternity. All Dreamguards are immortal, but can die from serious injuries inflicted by a violent nightmare. Because of their immortality they are incredibly bored; they are sceptic at humans because humans don't know what true boredom is, and take dreams for granted as well. This extreme boredom, however, saves them from losing their consciousness in the ever-changing frenzy of their homeworld.

It is very rare that two Dreamguards (must be male and female) fall in love, because love is not necessary. However, if it does occur, the two Dreamguards can engage in 'communion' - wherein they hold hands and 'share' their essence to form a soul. With this soul they take it to those in charge of Dreamguard creation and leave it with them for short time. In time a newly 'born' Dreamguard will join his/her parents (Dreamguards have the concept of 'lineage', but not 'family' ).

Mephistis

A pureblood Dreamguard demon, he is the leader of the Dreamhunters as shown by his leader markings around his eyes (including the dots) and his golden irises. Although he seems very polite and tactful, he is a powerful Dream Master and can easily take down most of the violent nightmares Dreamhunters are assigned to locate, and eat (in order to destroy a nightmare completely).

He is extremely proud of his lineage, and appears to look down on any Dreamguard who is not a pureblood (i.e. human soul). Like the other Dreamhunters, he enjoys the sport of 'dream baiting' - throwing a stubborn dream to hungry nightmares and betting on how long it will last - as due to his boredom.

As a leader, he tries to keep his subordinates in check, especially because Dreamhunters are wild and often lose themselves in a frenzy when hunting a nightmare, often damaging other dreams as well.

Mephistis is 164 years old as of the moment, and likes red.

Seraphist

He was originally human, but was consumed by a particularly bad nightmare that the Dreamhunters were supposed to catch. The Dreamcatchers were those who saved his soul by implanting it into a Dreamguard body.

As the leader of the Dreamcatchers, he tries to make sure his subordinates know that there is balance to be maintained in the dream world - if there is any war or disturbance in the dream world, the delicate balance in the human world would be destroyed. Because the Dreamcatchers have become complacent and lazy, he has to be somewhat demanding and extremely businesslike.

Seraphist is 40 years since his entering the Dreamguard world; he died at 29. He likes black.

<sub>I actually had a dream about these two. Ever since bringing them to life, I've learned more about the richness of their dangerous, crazy world - and they are so FASCINATING.

I might write their story, I might not.

They're also based on the Yin-Yang (and it's quite obvious with the colouring).
